Welcome to my Website
I specialise in hand-crafting unique jewellery and accessories. In particular, I turn fine merino wool and silk into truly original necklaces, ear-rings, bags and fastenings. By dressing the fabric with semi-precious stones, glass beads and freshwater pearls, I help you to make that distinctive statement about your own personality.
I choose fibres for their colour and texture. By using a technique known as “wet felting”, the fibres are blended, shaped and worked to give the look and feel that’s just right for the piece. The resulting hand-made fabric is something that stands out on its own. As an accessory it can transform an everyday outfit into something special. I can also customise colours to match that glamorous outfit for a wedding, night out or celebration.
Naturally, the felt is only the starting point. For finer detail, beads, pearls and stones are added in a myriad of colours, shapes and sizes to give a richness of texture and style. The end result is therefore a hand-crafted original. For comfort and ease of use, most necklaces are secured using magnetic clasps.
My jewellery is worn and appreciated by people who want to stand out from the crowd. But my work is also on their dining tables, their walls, even their Christmas trees. Felted eggs and balls in glorious colours make a talking point around a table set with felt placemats.
Because most of my work is bespoke, you can’t buy it directly online. I need to understand your style and colour preferences, so that what I create gives exactly the sparkle or the subtlety that you seek.
Prices vary according to the size and detail of the piece. In the photo gallery, for example, beaded necklaces are priced from £35. Ear-rings can be as little as £10. Bags start at £60 and decorative beadwork can be added as an optional extra. Colour-blended, decorative balls are from £10 for merino-only. Those with added silk, mohair, camel or alpaca are slightly more expensive.
I’m happy to discuss commissions for pieces large and small, from ear-rings to wall hangings. Samples of wool colours can be supplied before finalising each order. Postage and packing are added at cost.
Felt-making is the focus of my work and is the most common topic of the demonstrations which I give. However, I also produce original, framed landscapes and seascapes in flowing, vibrant colours using encaustic waxes.
In a different context, my professional skills include British Sign Language Level 2+, together with deaf-blind guide communication. For those purposes, I am happy to discuss how to make bookings in central Scotland.
Please use the contact information on the website to get in touch by e-mail or by phone to discuss a possible order or to get information about stockists and events. If it’s easier, I’ll call you back at a time that suits you. I look forward to your enquiry.
Maggie.
